'Pirates of the Caribbean' Actor Tamayo Perry Killed at Age 49

'Pirates of the Caribbean' actor and surfing legend Perry Tamayo died at the age of 49 after being attacked by a shark near Goat Island on Sunday (June 23), Stabbing Magazine reported.

Perry was found missing an arm and a leg on Mlaekahana Beach on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. A passerby saw a man suffering from shark bites and called 911, according to Honolulu Emergency Services.

The incident occurred while Perry, who worked as a lifeguard and surf instructor, was taking a break from surfing around 1 p.m. local time. Emergency services brought Perry back to shore and paramedics attempted to resuscitate him before he was pronounced dead moments later, authorities said.

Shark warnings were issued by ocean safety personnel following the fatal incident, which was the second on Oahu this month.

He's well known on the North Shore. He's a professional surfer known around the world, said Honolulu's ocean safety chief Kurt Lager via The New York Post.

Tamayos' personality was contagious and as much as people loved him, he loved everyone even more, he added, describing Perry as a lifeguard loved by all.

Tamayo was a legendary and highly respected sailor, Honolulu mayor said Rick Blangiardiwho called Perry's death a tragic loss.

Perry began surfing at age 12, won the Pipeline Masters, an annual Oahu surfing competition, in 1999, and was widely regarded as one of the region's most prominent surfers in the mid-2000s. The Hawaiian has appeared in several acting roles, including Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Hawaii 5-0, Blue lightning strike, Lost And Charlie's Angels: Full Speed Ahead.
