Instructions
To create an ActivityPub actor:
Go to Admin > Plugins > ActivityPub.
Click Add Actor.
Complete the Add Actor form (settings are explained below).
Click Save Actor.
When you save the actor, other actors in the fediverse can start following it. You can disable an actor by toggling the Enabled button on the right side of the Edit Actor view.
Actor Settings
username
This is the first part of the Actors ActivityPub handle, for example announcements is the username of [email protected]. This will be the base username of actor users on remote Discourse instances (if the username is already in use on this instance, an integer will be added for uniqueness)
This property translates to the preferredUsername in the ActivityPub specification. Currently this option cannot be changed once set. It will change if or when this PR to Mastodon is merged.
Name
This is the actor's display name. Its usage depends on how other services implement it. In Discourse, it will become the actor's username.
Visibility
This determines whether the activities posted by the actor have Public addressYou should leave this public unless you know what you are doing.
It's essentially the same difference as the difference between public and private (subscriber-only) posts on Mastodon.
Publication object type
This determines whether the actor will post messages as Note or one Article. You should leave this as is. Note unless you know what you're doing.
Mastodon will only post a link to the original post if it receives a Article.
Publication type
Full topic
All posts in a topic associated with the actor will be published and all replies from the Fediverse will be turned into posts.
First post
Only the first post in a topic associated with the actor will be published and no replies from the Fediverse will be turned into a post.
