Events: Patriotic pride and beach fun were on the agenda this weekend for locals who attended Santa Monica College’s “Celebrate America” fireworks show and the Pier 360 Beach Festival. On the evening of June 29, SMC’s Corsair Field hosted the city’s largest fireworks display, featuring food trucks galore and live music by Westside Crew before a 20-minute show provided by Pyro Spectaculars Entertainment. SMC Board Chair Dr. Margaret Quiones-Perez wrote that the event “honors our country and our wonderful community.” On Saturday and Sunday, the Santa Monica Pier took visitors on a fun-filled ride, with the Pier 360 event featuring a slew of activities for all ages. Kids tested their fitness at the Ninja Nation obstacle course and an open skate park, while adults competed in beach volleyball and water competitions. Other amenities included live music throughout the day, a pop-up exhibit from the Museum of Beach Life and a pop-up ice rink.
