Renauld White, model and Guiding Light actor, dies at 80

Renauld White, the actor and model who appeared in television soap operas Guiding Light and was a pioneering figure in the modeling industry has died. He was 80.
“It is with great sadness that I announce that my dearest friend and co-worker, Renauld White, passed away yesterday,” fashion designer Jeffrey Banks wrote in an Instagram post. “I will miss our conversations and time together, but I will always remember the barriers you broke in the fashion industry and the love you shared as a trusted friend.”
Renauld White was in hospice care at a New York hospital when he died. No cause of death has been announced.
Born October 13, 1944 and raised in Newark, New Jersey, White Renauld was the first African-American to grace the cover of the magazine. GQ magazine in 1979. Additionally, he has appeared prominently in magazines such as Essence, Ebony And Jetand has worked for prestigious European fashion houses such as Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino, ArmaniAnd Versace.
White has also endorsed commercial products and services for Jamaica Tourist Board, Delta Airlines, Bank of Boston, And Miller Lite Beer.
Ray Volant, founder of the Bella Agency, remembers White as a pioneer in the industry.
“We were so honored to have represented Renauld at Bella Agency New York for the past 10 years,” said Volant. “He will be greatly missed by the fashion world, but he will not be forgotten for all the milestones he accomplished. Renauld’s passion and perseverance were an inspiration to many. He helped young models find their place in the industry. He was one of a kind.”

In addition to modeling, Renauld played William Reynolds in seven episodes of daytime drama series. Guiding Light between 1986 and 1987. Her other film credits include roles in the 2014 television film Hill of Arms and the 2017 slasher film Central Park.
White's funeral will be held at 11 a.m. July 12 at Whigham Funeral Home in Newark, New Jersey.
