'Horizon' Actor Michael Rooker Says Audiences Are Being Conditioned by TikTok

Audiences are used to seeing Michael Rooker play difficult characters in projects like The Walking Dead And guardians of the galaxybut the actor himself had some advice for the audience that didn't exactly flock to his latest film. Horizonwhich is directed by and starring Kevin Costner.

The film grossed $11 million last weekend, a disappointing amount for a $50 million budget, and most of the audience was over 55. told TMZ that the film actually asks something of its viewers.

“This is real cinema, guys. So get ready. We’re not used to this kind of thing. We’re used to 90-minute movies. Everything is 90 minutes long… Forget that bullshit. Let’s watch a movie that actually tells a story. A movie where you get to know people and you end up loving them – or hating them. It’s not just fast, cut, cut, cut.”

Asked about TikTok's impact on audience awareness, Rooker said: “Absolutely. Of course it does. They need to get over that bullshit… They need to learn what it's like to watch real cinema.”

Rooker is assumed to say that the billion-dollar box office success of Christopher Nolan's three-hour film Oppenheimer Last summer was the exception rather than the rule.

As for Costner, who is juggling his first directing role in 20 years, Rooker said: “He's brilliant in this role. He's a brilliant director. And he has the ability to pick absolutely the best of the best. [of actors].”
