KC Actor Plays Chocolate Shop Role On and Off Stage
KANSAS CITY, Mo. A performer in this season's production of the “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” from the Coterie Theater takes his role to a new level.
Tanner Rose lives two very different lives
Part of the week he is on stage in his role as an actor.
He is now the main character in the stage production of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”
When he's not on stage playing the role of a chocolatier, Rose works at his day job in a real chocolate factory, Andrés Chocolate Shop.
Rose, 30, has performed in numerous Off-Broadway productions and international shows.
“As a full-time performer in the Kansas City market, finding another job to support this business is always a little tricky,” Rose said. “But that’s why you see so many actors behind the counters here. Andres is really, really amazing for actors.”
For once, Rose manages to combine his two worlds. He produced the show's advertising in collaboration with the chocolate factory.
“I wish I could say it was all part of my plan, but it was just a beautiful coincidence,” Rose said. “We sell Andre’s Chocolates at the show. They have a magical chocolate bite that you can buy at the show, which is really cute.”
It's a delicious blend of two Kansas City institutions.
“People come here to feel good, to feel nostalgic, to feel literal joy, and they do that through the medium of chocolate, and that’s exactly what we do at ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,’” Rose said.
The show runs through August 4, but even after it's over, Rose will never truly shake off what makes him “Willy Wonka.”
“They (Andre) won't be able to get rid of me anytime soon,” Rose said. “I intend to haunt this place for a while.”
