Another X-Men Actor Talks Returning to Deadpool and Wolverine

Deadpool and Wolverine aren't the only superheroes making a comeback. As revealed in a first trailer for the film, Aaron Stanford is reprising his role as John Allerdyce aka Pyro, a role he played in the first three X-Men films from 2000 to 2006. Several other appearances are expected in the film, but since Stanford was one of the first to be shown, the actor can finally talk about his return to the franchise after 18 years.

In X-Men and X2: X-Men United, the films reimagined John as a student at Professor Xavier's school and a friend of Bobby Drake/Iceman (Shawn Ashmore) and Rogue (Anna Paquin). Toward the end of X2, Magneto (Ian McKellen) recruits John, who begins using his chosen codename, Pyro. In X-Men: The Last Stand, Pyro was a member of Magneto's Brotherhood of Mutants, but he didn't get a proper supervillain costume. Speaking with WellStanford revealed that Pyro's lack of proper attire has been fixed.

“I was really excited to have a costume,” Stanford said. “In the original X-Men movies, Pyro didn’t really have much luck in terms of costumes. In X-Men 2, we start with Pyro at Xavier’s school for gifted mutants. The SWAT team breaks in in the middle of the night and we have to run. So for half the movie, I’m in my pajamas. I never had the cool leather tactical suit that all the X-Men wear. And in X-Men 3, I was just dressed in a Hot Topic outfit, basically. So the fact that he’s wearing a real superhero costume that was actually from the comics was really cool.”

Plot details for the film are scarce, but it appears that Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin) has assembled several villains from previous X-Men films to serve as her army when Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine (Jackman) team up to stop her. Another returning cast member, Tyler Mane, was revealed in the latest trailer. Mane played Wolverine's arch-nemesis Victor Creed/Sabretooth in X-Men , and they're finally getting an on-screen rematch 24 years after their last fight.

Deadpool and Wolverine will be released in theaters on July 26.
