Stockton Heritage Museum to Host Alan Wenzel's Presentation of Hollywood's Best Train Films
STOCKTON, Ill. The Stockton Heritage Museum will host a presentation by Alan Wenzel on the films of the 1970s and how and why those films continue to influence the movies we see today.
The presentation, Hollywood’s Greatest Train Movies, will take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, at the Stockton Heritage Museum, 107 West Front Street, Stockton, Illinois. The event is free and open to the public.
Since the dawn of Hollywood, railroads have played a significant role in some of the greatest films ever made. For decades, trains have transported movie passengers on thrilling, thrilling, suspenseful, scary, funny and romantic journeys through cinematic landscapes. This program will highlight several memorable films, in which trains played either leading or very capable supporting roles.
A native of northwestern Illinois, Wenzel is a retired professor of speech and film from Highland Community College in Freeport, where, during a 39-year career that began in 1974, he taught courses in film, business communication, public speaking, leadership development, argumentation, political communication and small group behavior. From 1992 to 2017, Wenzel served as director of the Stephenson County Leadership Institute and the Jo Daviess County Leadership Forum, community leadership development programs offered by Highland.
Wenzels' interests include golf, classic movies, local history, family genealogy and current events. He co-hosts, with Ed Finch, a monthly classic movie series at the Lindo Theatre in Freeport.
