Los Angeles City Council rejects efforts to stop Hollywood multifamily project – Commercial Observer
A new multifamily development project in Hollywood, California, is moving one step closer to reality, whether neighbors like it or not.
THE Los Angeles City Council on Tuesday approved the findings of an environmental report for an eight-story, 108-unit apartment project proposed for 1201 North Gower StreetThe council also rejected an attempt by a Covina, Calif.-based advocacy group to stop the project, according to Urbanizewho was the first to report the news.
The group claimed the environmental report did not adequately account for the project's potential impacts and that its rights were granted improperly. But a city council staff report recommended a decision not to appeal, according to Urbanize.
Developer California Reference Group aims to demolish an existing 28-unit property to make way for its new building. PK Architecture designed the project.
The project’s benefits include a density bonus that would allow the developer to build a larger complex than local zoning rules typically allow. In exchange, 16 of the units will be set aside for affordable housing, and two more will be designated as low-income replacement housing to offset the apartments that will soon be razed. Construction is expected to take about two and a half years once permits are issued, according to Urbanize.
The effort to stop the development came from the Supporters of the Alliance for Environmental Responsibility (SAFER), a private foundation which is used to dealing with similar projects in Southern California.
