New Delhi: The makers of “John Wick” are adapting Nikhil Nagesh Bhat’s blood-soaked thriller “Kill” into a Hollywood film. “Kill” is produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Guneet Monga’s Sikhya Entertainment. Bollywood has a long history of popularizing its films in the West. Check out some of the Indian titles that have been formally adapted or had plots borrowed for Hollywood productions.

Drishyam
“Drishyam”, a 2013 Malayalam thriller, has been remade in Korean and Chinese.
In February, the makers of the Mohanlal-starring film made a groundbreaking announcement: the English version of Jeetu Joseph's 2013 film. The film series is now under production and the banner said in a statement that a Spanish-language adaptation will also happen in the future. Panorama Studios Chairman and Managing Director said in a statement, “We are very happy to collaborate with Gulfstream Pictures and JOAT Films to create this English story for Hollywood. After Korea and Hollywood, our mission is to produce Drishyam in 10 countries in the next three to five years.”

Darr – Fear
The narrative of James Foley's Hollywood film Fear (1996), which was a direct translation of Yash Chopra's romantic thriller Darr (1993), a Bollywood film starring Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla, was quite similar. Just as Shah Rukh spells Kiran's name on his own, Mark Wahlberg's stalker character spells 'Nicole' in the film. The heroine of Fear was played by Reese Witherspoon.
Top Si Baat – Hitch
Andy Tennant's 2005 Hollywood film Hitch, starring Will Smith in the lead role, is said to be based on the plot of Basu Chatterjee's 1976 romantic comedy, starring Amol Palekar, Vidya Sinha and Ashok Kumar. The hero of both films is a shy man who feels he lacks the courage to approach a woman until he meets a love guru.
A Wednesday – An Ordinary Man
A Common Man is the official remake of Sri Lankan director Chandran Rutnam's 2013 film A Wednesday!. Academy Award-winning actor Ben Kingsley starred in the Sri Lankan adaptation, which was also a critical and commercial success. The Indian version stars Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher.
Leap Year – Jab We Met
The plots of the films are similar, but the storylines are different. One stars Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan, while the other stars Amy Adams and Matthew Goode. Both films have female protagonists who face many challenges in their journey to pop the question to their boyfriends, one of whom is a charming and alluring stranger who becomes a friend.
