The airport said that vacationers arriving by private vehicle caused the closure. There is no more room for cars in the airport's multiple garages. Overflow parking lots are now open, but they are located off-property and require significant additional time to use.

The address of the overflow parking lot is 1661 SW 40th Street in Fort Lauderdale. It is close to I-95 and SW 40th, right next to the airport. A shuttle takes travelers from the parking lot to the airport. The parking fee is $10 and the parking lot prefers credit cards for payment. There are several private parking lots in the area that also offer shuttle service to and from the airport.
