Acting Gov. Dan Patrick Adds 81 Texas Counties to Hurricane Beryl Disaster Declaration
Final preparations must be made before the storm arrives
AUSTIN – Acting Governor Dan Patrick today urged Texans to make final preparations and announced that he has added 81 counties to the state’s disaster declaration for Hurricane Beryl, as storm forecasts have shifted the storm’s expected landfall north and east of previous projections. This brings the total number of Texas counties included in the state’s disaster declaration to 121 counties. After updating the disaster declaration, Acting Governor Patrick issued the following statement:
As Hurricane Beryl approaches the Gulf Coast, today and tomorrow will be the last two days for Texans to prepare for the coming storm. Beryl is a determined storm, and the incoming winds and potential flooding will pose a serious threat to Texans in Beryl's path as it makes landfall and as it moves across the state for the next 24 hours.
Current forecasts call for heavy rain and localized flooding along the coast to areas near College Station, Tyler and Texarkana as the storm moves through Texas on its current path. The path could change over the next 40 hours. Texans should be careful, monitor their local authorities and prepare today and tomorrow before the storm makes landfall early Monday morning.
As Acting Governor, I have been in constant communication with Texas state agencies and local leaders to coordinate preparations and response, and I will continue to do so. Do not ignore this storm.
The 81 Texas counties added include Anderson, Angelina, Austin, Bastrop, Bell, Bowie, Brazoria, Brazos, Burleson, Caldwell, Camp, Cass, Chambers, Cherokee, Collin, Colorado, Comal, Dallas, Delta, Ellis, Falls, Fannin, Fayette, Fort Bend, Franklin, Freestone, Galveston, Grayson, Gregg, Grimes, Guadalupe, Hardin, Harris, Harrison, Hays, Henderson, Hill, Hopkins, Houston, Hunt, Jasper, Jefferson, Kaufman, Lamar, Lee, Leon, Liberty, Limestone, Madison, Marion, McLennan, Milam, Montgomery, Morris, Nacogdoches, Navarro, Newton, Orange, Panola, Polk, Rains, Red River, Robertson, Rockwall, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Shelby, Smith, Titus, Travis, Trinity, Tyler, Upshur, Van Zandt, Walker, Waller, Washington, Williamson counties and Wood. Tropical Storm Beryl is expected to intensify as it moves northwest across the Gulf of Mexico before turning north to make landfall along the central Texas coast as a hurricane on Monday, according to the National Hurricane Center. Texas interests should closely monitor this system and finalize preparations for hurricane-like impacts, including heavy rain, flooding, potential tornadoes and strong winds as the system moves inland across the state.
Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) increased the preparedness level of the State Emergency Operations Center As of 10 a.m. Friday, Texas Emergency Management Council agencies are working around the clock, continuing to preposition state emergency response resources that were prepared for deployment by Gov. Greg Abbott on Thursday.
The State of Texas currently has more than 2,000 responders and 850 resources deployed to support the state’s response to the anticipated impacts of Hurricane Beryl. The following state emergency response resources have been deployed to support response operations:
Texans are urged to stay informed, monitor local weather forecasts, follow instructions from local officials, develop an emergency plan, review hurricane evacuation routes, build a kit containing emergency suppliesAnd consider reviewing flood risks and insurance coverage.
