Fair and festival season is about to kick off | News, Sports, Jobs

EAST WATERFORD — If tractor races, flea markets or charity and consignment sales are your thing, you're in luck.

Looking for a horseshoe tournament? Or maybe some square or line dancing? The 36th annual Tuscarora Valley Heritage Days offers these activities and more.

Heritage Days also marks the start of the fair and festival season throughout the Juniata Valley, culminating in the McClure Bean Soup Festival and Fair in September.

Heritage Days runs July 18-21 in East Waterford at 6201 Route 75 South. It offers fun for the whole family. A flea market, vendors, delicious food and live entertainment are highlights of each day.

The charity and consignment sale is scheduled for Thursday, July 18, followed by a tractor parade and square and line dancing on Friday, July 19. That leaves the horseshoe tournament on Saturday, July 20, and the Chinese auction and gun raffle on Sunday, July 21. Allensville

Firefighters' Day

The 70th annual Allensville Firefighters Festival will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. July 19 and 20 at the fire company, located at 161 E. Main St., in Allensville. Both evenings will feature games, food booths, baked goods and a

musical performance.

Friday, July 19 festivities include food, games and music by the Lonesome River Band. Saturday, July 20 activities include food, games and music by Chris Woodward and Shindiggin, a cornhole tournament, parade and fireworks. Festival-goers are welcome to join in at 3:30 p.m. for a delicious meal of chicken and corn soup on Friday and barbecue chicken on Saturday.

While both nights are full of fun, Saturday offers additional activities such as a cornhole tournament, a parade at 5 p.m., and a post-raffle fireworks display at 10:45 p.m. For more information, check out their Facebook page.

Juniata County Youth Fair

The Juniata County Fair will take over the Port Royal Fairgrounds, located at 308 W. Eighth St., in Port Royal, from July 20-25. Livestock shows, a baking contest, Ag Olympics, an animal costume contest and the annual livestock sale are some of the highlights. Dutch Days in Richfield

Mark your calendars! The 56th annual Richfield Dutch Days will be held from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. July 24-27 at Basom Memorial Park in Richfield. Each day, there will be food, entertainment and fun for the whole family. The entertainment lineup includes Lucky Afternoon on July 24, Broken Record Band on July 25, Pentagon Band on July 26 and Promise Land Quartet on July 27.

The Country Store will be stocked with new pottery, baked goods, crafts and more. Delicious fair food, plus the Dutch menu served daily at 4:30pm. Other highlights: Sunshine Shows rides, BOGO wristbands on Wednesdays only; games for all, a free raffle, Chinese auction and bingo. A fireworks display will take place on July 24 at 10pm, followed by a parade at 4pm. July 27. For more information, check out their Facebook page.

Fayette Community Carnival

The Fayette Community Carnival will take place from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. July 30 through Aug. 3 at 137 School St. in McAlisterville. This year's theme is “Out of the race!” Fun for all the family is guaranteed, with delicious food including the evening's main course, games, cash bingo, a cake wheel and rides. Nightly entertainment includes One Heart One Voice on July 30, Bella Donna on July 31, Lucky Afternoon on August 1, Adam and the Armadillos on August 2 and Adult Swim on August 3.

The Chinese auction, which will be held at the Fayette Fire Station, will benefit the fire company. The Skyshooter fireworks will take place at 10 p.m. on July 31. A cornhole tournament will be held on August 2. McClure Bean Soup Festival and Fair

From September 8th to 14th, the small town of McClure comes alive with the sights, sounds, lights, laughter, camaraderie and reunions of the 133rd year of the McClure Bean Soup Festival and Fair. Bean Soup highlights include concessions open daily at 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon on Saturday, entertainment by Sunshine Shows and, of course, bean soup served daily, starting at noon.

Sunday is Opening Day, which includes Pageant Day as well as a church service and the Danelle Cressinger Band, while Monday is Kids Day with free rides for everyone all night. Tuesday is Parade Day with the parade kicking off at 6 p.m., and Wednesday is Senior Day with a performance by Chris Woodward and Shindiggin. Thursday’s action includes BOGO wristbands, as well as The Mahoney Brothers performing. Friday is Youth Day and includes music from the Kenton Sitch Band and the Kentucky Headhunters as well as a cornhole tournament.
