Hollywood director to produce remake of Bollywood action film Kill
LOS ANGELES, CA (IANS) – The upcoming Bollywood film “Kill” is getting a Hollywood remake. Chad Stahelski, director of the Keanu Reeves-starring film “John Wick,” and his production company, 87Eleven Entertainment, are set to produce the remake.
The announcement came even before the release of the original Hindi film 'Kill', directed by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat.
The film's theatrical release marks one of the first times that a mainstream Hindi-language film has partnered with a Hollywood studio for a theatrical release in North America and the United Kingdom.
In the film, a commando named Amrit (Lakshya) discovers that his star-crossed mistress Tulika (Tanya Maniktala) is engaged against his will. He boards a train to New Delhi to derail the arranged marriage and reunite with his true love. However, his journey takes a turn when a gang of knife-wielding robbers starts terrorizing the innocent passengers on the train, prompting Amrit to take them upon himself and save those around him.
Producers Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta for Dharma Productions, and Guneet Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain said in a joint statement: “When we made ‘Kill’ with Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, we dreamed of a global love affair, and seeing North American cinemas chanting Kill! Kill! Kill! was like seeing that vision come to life. This announcement ahead of the original film’s release is unprecedented and a huge victory for Indian cinema. We are truly honoured.”
