Police confirm receiving report that actor assaulted girlfriend

KUALA LUMPUR:Police have confirmed receiving a report from a local woman who claims she was assaulted by her boyfriend, who is an actor.

Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Shahrulnizam Jaafar said the woman filed the report at 6.53pm yesterday.

He said that in the incident that took place at 3:38 am on the same day, the victim claimed that the 37-year-old actor not only scolded her but also hit her on the left eye and body.

Initial investigations revealed that the victim, aged 25, had been out with her sister before being contacted and reprimanded by the suspect following a misunderstanding.

The woman met her boyfriend in Ara Damansara, where the suspect beat her in his car. They had been dating for six months, he said in a statement.

According to Shahrulnizam, the police would obtain an order of inquiry (OTI) from the attorney general's office to summon the suspect for recording his statement and to assist in the investigation under Section 323 of the Penal Code.

He urged those with information regarding the case to contact the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters at 03-79662222.
