Money laundering case: ED summons Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez for 6th time today for questioning
Money laundering case: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoned Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez on July 10 for a fresh round of questioning in a money laundering case involving alleged conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar. PTI reported, citing official sources.
The education department has questioned Fernandez at least five times in connection with the same case. She has repeatedly denied any knowledge of Chandrashekhar's alleged criminal activities and maintained her innocence.
She also appeared before a Delhi court and alleged that Chandrashekhar played with her emotions and made her life hell.
The allegations
The 38-year-old Sri Lankan-origin Bollywood actor is embroiled in an alleged cheating case involving high-profile figures including former Fortis Healthcare promoter Shivinder Mohan Singh's wife Aditi Singh for an amount of around 200 crores.
The ED claimed that Chandrashekhar used these 'proceeds of crime' or illegal money to buy gifts for Fernandez.
The education department's indictment filed in 2022 alleged that Fernandez benefited from valuables, jewelry and expensive gifts provided by Chandrashekhar despite knowing of his criminal background.
The ED chargesheet also listed expensive gifts, such as a Persian cat and an Arabian horse, that the actor had received from the conman over the years.
Travel ban, DE measure
It is worth noting that the Chittiyaan Kalaiyaan star has not been allowed to travel abroad since she was investigated in a money laundering case. A lookout circular is in force against her, which led to her brief detention at Mumbai International Airport in 2021.
In April 2022, the ED had seized assets worth 7.27 crores from Fernandez due to his proximity to Chandrashekhar.
“Sukesh Chandrashekhar had given various gifts worth “Jacqueline Fernandez received Rs 5.71 crore from the proceeds of criminal activities including extortion. Chandrasekhar had instructed Pinky Irani, her long-time associate and co-accused in the case, to hand over the said gifts to her,” the ED had said in a statement.
