Actor Gaurav Bakshi granted bail after being accused of being involved in a false case

MAPUSA: Defence counsel Nigel DCosta Frias said his client, actor/director Gaurav Bakshi, has been granted bail by JMFC Mapusa. We will now challenge the FIR and decide on the next step.

Bakshi was accused of blocking minister Nilkanth Halarnkar's car, which was improperly parked, blocking access to the Revora Panchayat, where the minister had gone. The driver refused to move the car, when Bakshi asked him to do so. Bakshi's family alleged that it was actually minister Nilkanth Halarnkar who was harassing him and his family. Bakshi's wife Rupendra Kaur also said that the allegations were false and it was just police harassment. The case was heard by JMFC Mapusa on Friday morning and bail was granted in the afternoon.Lawyer Nigel Costa Frias said the FIR was false and motivated and that justice would be done by the court. There was no need for an FIR or arrest. Bakshi surrendered because of the pressure on him and his family as he was to be arrested the night before and again the next morning. There was no urgency and there was no need to arrest him as the matter was not serious. The prosecutor said there was an altercation between him and the minister and that he obstructed the minister's vehicle. The prosecutor also said he gave information to the media that the minister was corrupt, among other things. Bakshi's wife Rupendra Kaur said, “The case has been blown out of proportion and fabricated. There was no basis for an FIR. The entire family had to go through harassment and it could have been avoided.” Initially, there were two bailable sections, but later a non-bailable section was added by the police.
