What if there was a more exciting way to cool off during this sweltering Florida heat? Well, there certainly is, let's remember water parks. And no, they're not only for kids.

Volcano Bay is Universal Studios Orlando's tropical-themed water park, home to more than 15 attractions located in four themed areas inspired by various Polynesian islands and cultures.
“Volcano Bays' strengths lie in its ability to deliver old-school terror. We're talking about the park's signature slide: the Kookiri Body Plunge. This 125-foot-long ride drops you at a 70-degree angle to the base of a volcano and past the less adventurous humans relaxing in the pool below,” Thrillist notes.
Thrillist points out that the water park has two other 125-foot-long slides for thrill seekers. If you need something to calm your nerves, they suggest the Dancing Dragons Boat Bar, which they joke will “give you enough liquid courage to try again.”

Tips for Visiting a Water Park in Florida

- Try to come on weekdays, early in the week, when there are fewer visitors. Be aware that some water parks are open seasonally (call ahead).
- It's hard to get up early on vacation, but as Mom says, “the early bird gets to the water slides.”
- Purchase a waterproof plastic container (necklace or bracelet) from the gift shop before you hit the water. This will allow you to take your credit cards and cash with you, rather than returning to your locker multiple times.
- Designate a meeting point in case someone gets lost or your group gets separated. (I learned this the hard way at the Adventure Island river ride when my son and a friend ran off into the current before I could even find a raft. It took me 15 nerve-wracking minutes to find them.)
- Whether it's cloudy or sunny, wear a sunscreen with a high SPF and take the time to reapply it often throughout the day.
- This tip won't appeal to teens, but avoid oversized bikinis and board shorts worn “too low,” especially if your family plans to try out the huge vertical slides. Kids won't feel as “cool” when the water pressure on the rides exposes them more than they should.
- Most water parks allow coolers (glasses and alcohol are prohibited), so bring your own drinks and snacks if you wish. Call ahead to find out the park's rules.
- If you have children of different ages, be prepared to divide and conquer with one friend or spouse taking one age or daredevil level and you the other. Meet periodically and interrupt each other.
- Keep a change of clothes in a plastic bag. If it rains, your clothes will still be dry when it comes time to change out of your wetsuit and head back to your hotel.
