'Deadpool and Wolverine': Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman talk about their epic bromance

“Dead Pool “& Wolverine” is poised to become one of the most talked about movies of the summer.

Featuring the epic team-up of Ryan Reynolds' “big-mouthed mercenary” Wade Wilson/Deadpool and Hugh Jackman's Logan/Wolverine, the film marks the first official introduction of both characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which began 16 years ago.

Appearing on “Good Morning America” ​​on Monday, Reynolds and Jackman were the embodiment of the friendship at the heart of the film.

Jackman, who previously hung up his claws as Wolverine with 2017's “Logan,” spoke about the decision he made to return to the role of the beloved comic book character once again.

“I believed it. The best lies are the ones you believe yourself,” Jackman said, adding that everything changed after seeing the first “Deadpool” movie.

He said he became so excited about the prospect of seeing the two characters team up on the big screen that he eventually called Reynolds on August 14, 2022, with the idea.

Reynolds called it “the call that literally changed my life.”

The actors also discussed the experience of filming “Deadpool” & Wolverine” as friends.

“We’re really good friends. I had to pinch myself every day,” Jackman said. “We took a picture… Shawn’s first day, me and Ryan. We hugged and our foreheads were touching, and it was like, you can’t forget that moment and that opportunity. The movie itself came out better than I could have ever imagined.”

“We realized this was lightning in a bottle, this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Reynolds added.

The official description reads: “A listless Wade Wilson struggles to live a civilian life. His days as the morally flexible mercenary Deadpool are behind him.”

“When his home planet faces an existential threat, Wade must reluctantly re-don an even more reluctant suit… more reluctant? The most reluctant? He must convince a reluctant Wolverine to…” he continues, before trailing off.

Long story short, Deadpool and Wolverine team up to save the world – and maybe the multiverse, as previews have hinted.

Who stars in “Deadpool” & Wolverine” ?

In addition to Reynolds as Wade Wilson and Jackman returning as Wolverine, “Deadpool & Wolverine” features a star-studded cast.

The film stars Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, and Karan Soni reprising their respective roles as Vanessa, Wade's love interest; Peter, a member of Deadpool's X-Force team; Blind Al, Deadpool's witty roommate; and Dopinder, Deadpool's loyal cab driver.

New to the cast are Matthew Macfadyen as Paradox and Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova.

But perhaps most importantly, Dogpool, a canine variant of Deadpool, will also make his debut.

Director Shawn Levy Promises 'Huge Surprises' for Fans

During an appearance on “Good Morning America” ​​Thursday, director Shawn Levy said the film is about a “surprising friendship.”

“I think you can expect some fun… certainly some action and some spectacle, but I think people might expect a little less warmth from this movie,” he said. “Because it's really a movie made by friends about friendship… you have these two characters who don't really get along, but ultimately, through a lot of conflict, find a surprising friendship.”

Levy also said the film is “designed for audience enjoyment” and hinted that fans can expect “huge surprises.”

“I'm really excited that our movie is coming out soon, and there are some huge surprises that, in some ways, the internet hasn't anticipated and the world hasn't even realized yet,” he said cryptically. “So I think it's going to be a good thing, all these unexpected things.”

The director also joked that having four daughters is “like living with a focus group,” adding: “They're always my first audience and, luckily, they really love this movie.”

Speaking of trailers, here's a look at what fans have seen – so far – of the film.

A teaser trailer for “Deadpool” & Wolverine” debuted during Super Bowl LVIII, showing Wade Wilson celebrating his birthday when the Time Variance Authority — heavily featured in the Disney+ series “Loki” — shows up at his door. He's taken to TVA headquarters where he's told he's “special” and given the chance to “be a hero among heroes.”

“Your little cinematic universe is about to change forever,” Wade – later calling himself “Marvel Jesus” – responds as we next see him back in his Deadpool gear.

We only get a glimpse of Wolverine – as his shadowy silhouette reveals his adamantium claws – in the final moments of the clip.

The first official trailer was released in April, giving fans an in-depth look at the dynamic between Deadpool and Wolverine as the two characters team up.

In this timeline, MacFadyen's Paradox says that Logan has “let the world down,” and Deadpool attempts to give Wolverine a pep talk – while Madonna's “Like a Prayer” plays – reminding him of his days on the X-Men team.

It must work, because later we see the two facing off against Cassandra Nova of Corrin, a powerful mutant and the twin sister of X-Men founder Charles Xavier – aka Professor X.

“Boys are so stupid,” Corrin’s villain says.

The final trailer for “Deadpool” & Wolverine” changed things up by taking a more serious tone, delving into the more emotional moments between the two main characters.

At one point, Wade holds up a photo to show Logan exactly who he's fighting for, saying, “There's only nine people, but my whole world is right here in this picture. And I have no idea how to save it on my own, but you! You know how to save them!”

Later, Logan is seen talking to someone standing in the shadows. “Whoever you think I am… you've got the wrong person,” he says.

As the person turns around, she reveals herself to be Dafne Keen's X-23 from “Logan” as an adult – confirming a cameo for fans. “You were always the bad guy… until you weren't,” she tells him.

What movies came before “Deadpool” & Wolverine” ?

While “Deadpool “& Wolverine” is the first time Wade Wilson/Deadpool officially joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's not the first “Deadpool” movie.

The previous two installments, 2016's “Deadpool” and 2018's “Deadpool 2,” delighted fans on the big screen.
