Hollywood lobster diver hospitalized after having trouble breathing – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports
HOLLYWOOD, FLA. (WSVN) – As the two-day mini lobster season got underway, a Hollywood diver was rushed to the hospital after reportedly having trouble breathing.
Broward Sheriff's firefighters arrived at a marina off Port Everglades Wednesday morning.
7Skyforce flew over the scene, where police boats remained on scene.
Authorities said the diver had a medical condition that made it difficult for him to breathe. A Navy unit was able to board the diver and the diver was placed on their boat, where crews administered oxygen.
A rescue truck was waiting at the marina and the diver was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital.
At the hospital, the diver was conscious and alert as he spoke with paramedics.
During the first day of the mini-season, other divers were injured or had to deal with other problems.
A lobster diver near the Boca Chica Bridge in the Lower Keys was airlifted to a Miami hospital after being struck by a boat propeller, and in Miami Beach, two divers were rescued after their boat capsized.
