Rohit Shetty defends cost of star entourage, says cost of filmmaking has increased overall: It's not just actors | Bollywood News

Bollywood is probably going through one of the toughest times in its history with many films failing to do well at the box office and there has been a lot of discussion around the rising budgets of films and high entourage costs. Recently, Rohit Shetty, known for helming several blockbuster films in Bollywood such as the Golmaal series, Singham, Sooryavanshi and Simmba among others, also shared his opinion on the matter. In a new interview, the filmmaker said that the cost of producing films has increased overall, suggesting that entourage costs and star fees are not the only issue in Bollywood’s current crisis.

In a recent interview with Showsha, when Rohit Shetty was asked if he too was facing the challenge of the high fees of his entourage, the filmmaker was quick to reply, “Not really.” He further explained, “For me, it’s totally different. I agree that the cost has gone up. But when you say the cost has gone up, it’s not just the actors. Everything from travel to hotel tickets has gone up. So it’s not just the actors. The overall cost has gone up. You have to keep in mind that since the cast is an ensemble, a lot of money is spent on the casting, it’s not like that.”

Similarly, several industry insiders including Karan Johar and Anurag Kashyap have also addressed the issue. During the trailer launch of his production film Kill, Karan Johar told indianexpress.com that star fees are not always sustainable, which makes it difficult to put together a film. Earlier, Farah Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui had said that actors should stick to their fixed fees without increasing unnecessary expenses.

On the professional front, Rohit Shetty is currently working on his film Singham Again starring Ajay Devgn, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor in the lead roles.
