Hybe's explosive countersuit against Min Hee Jin: No compulsory acquisition

After a long hiatus, a new legal battle has broken out between ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin and popular agency HYBE. Min Hee Jin filed a lawsuit against several HYBE executives after they accused her of ripping off popular K-pop group New Jeans from Source Music. However, the entertainment company has denied all allegations and will be filing a countersuit against Min Hee Jin for false accusations.

HYBE Files Countersuit Against Min Hee Jin

Min Hee Jin accused the entertainment company behind popular K-pop boy band BTS of defamation in her lawsuit. She also claimed that the company maliciously edited her posts to defame her. HYBE responded with a countersuit claiming that all of the accusations made against the company by ADOR’s CEO were false. HYBE released an official statement alleging that Min Hee Jin did not return any of the company’s assets, such as laptops, after leaving HYBE, and that she did not comply with audit requests. In contrast, two deputy CEOs voluntarily returned their assets, and HYBE denied forcibly acquiring assets from them, as reported by Soompi.

In a previous court case, HYBE clarified that it had not conducted a forensic examination on a laptop previously returned by Min Hee Jin. It was also revealed that Min Hee Jin had sent work-related documents, including conversations with a shaman, to external recipients using her HYBE email account, which remained stored on the company’s servers. The emails were sent to a senior official at a partner company whose name HYBE did not disclose in the statement.

The entertainment company also revealed that Min Hee Jin had consented to the processing of her personal data when she joined the company. However, even after several explanations from HYBE, Min Hee Jin and others filed a lawsuit based on false accusations, forcing the company to take counter-legal measures against them.

Min Hee Jin's lawsuit against HYBE executives

On July 24, 2024, Min Hee Jin filed a defamation lawsuit against five HYBE executives, HYBE CEO Park Ji Won, Audit Committee Chairman Lim Soo Hyun, Chief Legal Officer Jung Jin Soo, Chief Financial Officer Lee Kyung Joon, and Chief Communications Officer Park Tae Hee. She accused the entertainment company of repeatedly leaking illegally obtained private conversations and personal information and altering them for its own benefit.
