The actor played James Bond in a film
Australian actor George Lazenby, who played James Bond in “On Her Majesty's Secret Service” in 1969, is retiring. Lazenby was the world's best-known secret agent, appearing in only one film, the one where he played 007.
A Josh Greenbaum docudrama about Lazenby's life, “Becoming Bond,” was released on Hulu in 2017. An auto mechanic turned male model, Lazenby was the second actor to play Bond on the big screen, following Sean Connery, who starred in seven James Bond films.
On July 24, Lazenby announced his decision to retire in a post on X. While his career has been “a fun ride,” he feels that “getting old is not fun,” he wrote.
“This has not been an easy decision to make, but it is time to announce my retirement,” Lazenby wrote on X. “Therefore, I will no longer be performing, making public appearances, giving interviews or signing autographs as of today.”
“I would like to thank my manager and friend, Anders Frejdh, for helping me since 2013 – the best representative I have ever had,” the actor continued. “I can now focus on spending time with my family. My sincere gratitude to everyone who has been there for your love and support over the years. It has meant the world to me. George xx”
Lazenby appeared in several films, including “The Man from Hong Kong” in 1975 and “Never Too Young to Die” in 1986.
