My mother has always been my muse and inspiration. Suneet Varma painted a resplendent canvas on the second day of India Couture Week with his collection “Nazm,” which began with a nazm written by his mother and poet Indira Varma. And the show was exactly as lyrical as the words it began with.

In a bold yet feminine collection that ran the gamut from chic cocktail saris to show-stealing bridal lehengas, Varma presented the crowd with his signature appliqué work from across the country. His signature corseted blouses and three-dimensional embroideries showcased luxurious fabrics like organza and chiffons, all timeless silhouettes that were both feminine and alluring. Pale grey, light celadon green, icy pink and ivory hues were showcased in asymmetrical tunics, ‘Farshi’ shararas and draped saris.
