With far too many cultural groups, businesses and events to fit into a single weekend, Chatham-Kent is planning a two-month celebration of the community's multiculturalism.

Taste of Chatham-Kent organizers held a launch at the Chatham Portuguese Club on Thursday, with representatives from several participating organizations in attendance.
The event begins this Saturday and runs until September 30 throughout the municipality.
Confirmed events include the Newcomers Picnic in Kingston Park on Saturday, the Chatham-Kent International Food Festival at Tecumseh Park from August 16 to 18, and the CK Soccer World Cup tournament, hosted by the Portuguese club, on August 24.
Mayor Darrin Canniff expects more events to be added in the coming weeks and encouraged other groups to come forward.
If you are planning a dance performance, a concert, a special evening at a restaurant, an open house or an activity to highlight your cultural heritage, let us know the details, he said.

Taste of Chatham-Kent committee members Dava Robichaud and Tracey Callaghan said it was an opportunity to showcase what the region has to offer.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for Chatham-Kent to come together and celebrate our growing community and our increasing cultural diversity,” said Robichaud.
Michelle Robbins, curator of the Buxton National Historic Site and Museum, welcomed the return of a comprehensive multicultural initiative, noting that similar festivals have been held in previous years.
Buxton is hosting its 101st Homecoming Celebration on Labor Day weekend.
“It’s a welcoming community, it’s a welcoming event,” she said. “We want everyone to be able to enjoy and celebrate with us.”
Connie Piggott-Wilson and her husband, Kevry Wilson, owners of Yardie Vibez Jamaican Kitchen & Lounge, are planning a Roots & Riddim festival on September 7.

“There are so many different cultures. We intend to celebrate the whole Caribbean,” Piggott-Wilson said.
Carlos Pisquem, president of the Portuguese club, said that as football is a global sport, the passion is always there.
The club was thrilled to have the opportunity to be part of this experience, he said. It's very important and exciting because Chatham-Kent has such diversity… to be able to bring it all together.
Seby Joseph and Nissam Madathil of the Malayalee Association of Chatham-Kent discussed the harvest festival of Onam, scheduled for September 7.
It's similar to Thanksgiving, Joseph said, adding that more than 150 families are involved in the group.
Everyone is invited to participate in activities, including a tug-of-war competition.
Another Taste of CK activity is an introductory tai chi open house on September 10-12.
