Prince Harry 'won't take' Meghan Markle to UK because of tabloids
Prince Harry has spoken out about how the relentless coverage of his life by British tabloids, some of which involved illegally obtained private information, has raised concerns for the safety of his family, including his wife, Duchess Meghan.
Speaking to ITV News correspondent Rebecca Barry in the hour-long documentary,Tabloids on trial“, broadcast Thursday night in the UK, the Duke of Sussex spoke publicly for the first time about the victory he won in his phone-hacking lawsuit against the publisher of the Daily Mirror in December, which saw a court award him around $180,000 in damages.
Harry explained his motivations for leading the prosecution against media companies including the publishers of the Daily Mail, the Sun and the Daily Mirror, which he accuses of using illegal tactics to unearth information for tabloid scoops.
“They pushed me too far. It's gotten to the point where you're doomed if you do it and you're doomed if you don't,” he said of the lawsuit against the publishers. “I don't think there's anyone in the world better suited to do this than me.”
“It's always dangerous and it only takes one lone actor, one person who reads this stuff, to act on what they read, whether it's with a knife, acid or whatever… those are things that really concern me. That's one of the reasons I'm not bringing my wife back to this country.”

“I'm trying to get justice for everybody,” Harry said. “It's a David versus Goliath situation: the Davids are the plaintiffs and the Goliath is this vast media corporation.”
Prince Harry says it's clearly not in his best interest to sue media companies
The duke, who is the younger son of King Charles and the late Princess Diana, also shut down speculation that the lawsuits he filed were retaliation.
“It's clear to everyone now that I have no interest in taking the risk of going to the press and facing such retaliation by making these allegations. Look at what's happened to me and my wife and my family over the last four years, right?” Harry said. “So it was a very difficult decision for me to make, namely: how much worse is it going to get?”
Prince Harry, who caused a stir last June when he gave evidence in court in his trial against Mirror Group Newspapers, is still involved in ongoing cases against Rupert Murdoch's News Group Newspapers, which publishes The Sun and the now-closed News of the World, and Associated Newspapers, publisher of the Daily Mail. Last year, a judge at London's High Court allowed the duke's case against NGN to proceed.
The Sun and the Daily Mail have denied allegations of wrongdoing.
Harry claimed that employees of Murdoch-owned tabloids hacked his phone and hired investigators over a period spanning two decades.
“If I can get to trial, then we’re talking about over a decade of evidence, most of which has never been publicly known,” Harry said of the NGN trial. “That’s the goal.”
He added: “This evidence must be revealed. And then the police can make their decision, because this country and the British public deserve better.”

Fight against tabloids is 'central element' of 'break' with royal family
Harry has admitted that being so vocal in his fight against the British tabloids has had an impact on his relationship with the royal family, which includes his brother, Prince William, the heir to the throne.
“It's certainly a central element,” he said. “It's a difficult question to answer because anything I say about my family is met with a torrent of abuse from the press.”
Harry continued: “I've made it clear that this is something that needs to be done. It would be good if we did it as a family. I think, again, from a service perspective and when you're in a public role, these are things that we should do for the greater good. But I'm doing it for my own reasons.”
“For me, the mission continues,” he said. “But it's true. It caused, as you say, part of the fracture.”
