Thursday, 12 cases of coronavirus confirmed in West Hollywood

LOS ANGELES, California – The Los Angeles County Public Health Department confirmed on Thursday 39 additional cases of new coronavirus, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 231.

Health officials also said Thursday that a second person in Los Angeles County died this week after contracting the virus. According to the Los Angeles County Public Health Service, the person died in a Pasadena hospital.

Los Angeles County released update number of coronavirus cases by city to Facebook on Thursday.

These figures are subject to change based on further investigation, said county health officials.

There is currently no vaccine to prevent 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The best way to prevent the disease is to avoid being exposed to this virus. However, as a reminder, the CDC still recommends daily preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, including:

Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
Stay home when you are sick.
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces with a spray bottle or regular household cleaning cloth.
Follow the CDC’s recommendations for the use of a face mask.
- The CDC does not recommend that people who wear a full face mask protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19.
- Face masks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to others. The use of face masks is also crucial for health workers and people caring for someone in a close environment (at home or in a health facility).
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after using the toilet; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.
- If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol. Always wash your hands with soap and water if your hands are visibly dirty.
