Crown actor Emma Corrin talks about Princess Dianas’ wedding dress

Of all the memorable outfits Princess Diana wore, her wedding dress might be the most iconic of all.

So for Emma Corrin, who will play the late Princess of Wales in Season 4 of The Crown on Netflix, wearing an exact replica of the legendary dress was an unforgettable experience.

In October cover interview for British Vogue, Corrin, 24, remembers when she first tried on a recreation of the outfit Diana wore when she married Prince Charles in 1981.

We were filming the scene when you first see her in a wedding dress, I think it was Lancaster House in London and I had a crew of about 10 people helping me put it on because it’s huge, Corrin said. Corrin explained that David and Elizabeth Emanuel, who designed the original wedding dress for the late princess, shared the designs with the show’s costume designers, who then created a perfect replica of the dress for Corrin.

Corrin will play Diana in the fourth season of The Crown, starting at age 16 and still known as Lady Diana Spencer, until her late twenties.

The British actor, a relative newcomer with just a few previous acting credits, said that as she immersed herself in Diana as a character, she began to feel a kinship with her.

I feel like I got to know Diana like you would a friend, Corrin told British Vogue. I know it sounds really weird, but it gives me a great sense of camaraderie. I guess over time you kind of start to put together a sense of empathy and a sense of understanding.

The fourth season of The Crown premieres November 15 on Netflix.
