^ Janelle Mon e on her lead roles in “Antebellum”: “How to speak the truth without showing the truth?
^ FILM-ANTEBELLUM-MONAE: PH
At the start of the film, the famous music star is Eden, a slave woman abused by a sadistic plantation owner in the south before the Civil War.
Then, in the second act of “Antebellum,” Mon e is Veronica Henley, a successful modern black feminist author and cultural influencer speaking TED with a loving husband and beautiful daughter.
The film was originally slated to hit theaters in April, but has been pushed back due to the coronavirus and will now air in due course amid the racial calculation it aims to address. It will be released for on-demand viewing at home on Friday.

^ Comment: HBO’s “ We Are Who We Are ” is the perfect TV show to mark the end of a lost summer
^ TV-WE-ARE-WHO-WE-ARE-COMMENT: THE
With his “Desire Trilogy” of films “I Am Love” (2009), “A Bigger Splash” (2015), “Call Me by Your Name” (2017) and now the HBO series “We Are Who We Are”, the The Oscar-nominated Italian director has established himself as our main chronicler of life’s voluptuous delights: rooster crows and birdsong, chilled drinks in hot squares, just ripe stone fruit and salt cod . Sometimes his work even seems to be woven from sensory memories, with your hand wandering along the back of a handsome man’s neck or clutching a pocket of MDMA in a squalid bathroom. Guadagnino is “the one who suffers from amorous love”, as the teenager Cait (Jordan Kristine Seam n) recites Walt Whitman in “We Are Who We Are”.
Focus on pain.

^ “Macho Man?” Trump uses gay anthem at rallies, even after villagers say stop
^ MUS-TRUMP-VILLAGE-PEOPLE: SJ
To boost the morale of these supporters, the campaign rocked “Macho Man” on the tarmac of an airport where the rally took place. Trump’s choice to hold a non-social rally for a crowd of 5,000, after Nevada officials banned gatherings of more than 50 people, was one of the reasons the re-election event stirred questions.
But so did the use of “Macho Man” in the countryside, mainly because it is known as a gay anthem by the villagers.

^ The 13 best moments of Gladys Knight’s classic battle against Sunday’s Patti LaBelle Verzuz
^ MUS-VERZUZ-KNIGHT-LABELLE: THE
Verzuz, if you’re not in the know, is the blockbuster online series that pits musicians against each other in track-for-track battles on Instagram Live. The almighty NFL you know.
Still, it made sense that, at least on social media, the first came out the winner: with Gladys Knight taking on Patti LaBelle, two soul music icons with the songs and stories to show off for their combined 150th birthday, Verzuz simply offered the best competition on Sunday.
As they say on the internet, I tell my kids this was America’s game.

^ How does “Dancing With the Stars” stay “relevant”? By broadcasting reality TV stars
^ TV-DANCING-STARS: LA <"Dancing With the Stars" has built a reputation as a ballroom competition for actors, athletes and musicians, plus the sporadic politician and media personality.
“I always say this is the weirdest dinner you’ve ever had,” said co-executive producer Deena Katz. “You start out with a bunch of people that you don’t necessarily expect to be in the same room, and then somehow, once you’ve met them all, that makes sense.”
And over the past 15 years, one or two occasional reality TV stars have joined in the fun: “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” siblings Kim and Rob Kardashian, “The Osbournes” kin Kelly and Jack Osbourne. , “Little Women: THE” star Terra Jol and Sadie Robertson, daughter of “Duck Dynasty”. Four “Real Housewives” Lisa Vanderpump, NeNe Leakes, Kim Zolciak-Biermann and Erika Jayne appeared on the series (Lisa Rinna competed before “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” began). Even the mastermind of “Jackass” Steve-O and “Honey Boo Boo” herself, Alana Thompson, went for the mirror ball trophy.
