This week’s Dynamite is oversized as it takes place over two nights, Wednesday and Thursday. The first night was full of action.

Best Friends faced Santana and Ortiz in a brawl in a parking lot after Proud and Powerful damaged Sue’s van. Did Trent get revenge on his mother or did Santana and Ortiz gain the upper hand?

Thunder Rosa also returned to Dynamite this week to defend the NWA Women’s Championship against Ivelisse in a rare cross-promotion match.

MJF was back in action for the first time since losing to Jon Moxley in All Out, Private Party took on Chris Jericho and Jake Hager, and many more took place on Wednesday’s show.

Let’s take a look at everything that happened during this week’s episode of Dynamite.

1 of 8

AEW filled Wednesday’s show to the brim with non-wrestling matches and segments:

  • MJF is back in action.
  • Moxley and Lance Archer meet.
  • Best friends vs proud and powerful
  • Private party against Jericho and Hager
  • Thunder Rosa vs. Ivelisse
  • Hangman Page vs. Frankie Kazarian
  • FTR vs. Jurassic Express
  • Kip Sabian and Miro together again.

2 of 8

Jim Ross, Excalibur and Tony Schiavone greeted us at the show before heading straight to the ring. Jurassic Express was waiting for FTR when The Young Bucks came out, kicked the ref for no reason, and left without saying anything.

FTR laughed at them as they walked backstage before heading to the ring. Dax Harwood started up against Jungle Boy and used his height advantage to gain control immediately. He and Cash Wheeler traded tags and double-team moves to keep the young man isolated.

Jungle Boy used his agility to hit a few dropkicks to turn things around in his favor. Once Luchasaurus logged in, FTR was hesitant to engage with him. Harwood and Wheeler used a distraction to attack him from behind.

The tag team champions kept up the pace by using mat wrestling techniques to keep their opponents defensive. Luchasaurus missed Wheeler and dove into the crowd at one point. This allowed FTR to team up on Jungle Boy and achieve the victory by cheating.

    Class: B

The Young Bucks’ spinning heel was fun to watch, and getting them out and attacking the ref before this game for no reason was a quick way to move this scenario forward.

The fight that followed was the kind of quick team action we’ve come to expect from AEW. These two teams showed a lot of chemistry and had very good exchanges.

There were a few points where slowing down would have been beneficial to them, but it’s a small problem. Overall the match was a fun way to kick off the show.

3 of 8

Kenny Omega has joined the commentary team to watch The Hangman take on Kazarian. Omega was clearly in conflict over Page judging by the way he spoke of his former partner.

Page and Kaz got a furious blockage to begin the action. They paused sharply in the corner to show that the two wanted to have a clean competition.

Kaz was offended, but the first half of the game belonged to Page. The hanged man used everything in his arsenal to keep his opponent at bay. As they fought during the break, Kazarian began to make a comeback.

They traded big lefts and rights until Page hit a slam fallaway and a shooting star press for a near drop. Kaz grabbed it with a cutter a few minutes later for another two count. The pair hit several impressive counters, but they couldn’t seem to hold back for the pin.

After a long trade, Page knocked out the Buckshot Lariat for the win.

    Class: A

It was the kind of game that would have been at home on any pay-per-view card. Page and Kaz are two skilled veterans who are experts at what they do and they didn’t disappoint.

It could have been a five-minute game without a storyline, but it ended up being one of the best singles fights either man has had at AEW to date.

The physical capacity of the two competitors was impressive. They hit a lot of power moves that you would expect from guys twice the size, which is a testament to the hidden strength that Page and Kaz have. It was a great job from top to bottom.

4 of 8

MJF took on a local competitor and defeated him in under 10 seconds by lowering him into the Salt of the Earth armband for the submission victory.

He grabbed a mic after Wardlow threw his opponent out of the ring. MJF said he was an honest man and Moxley cheated in their All Out match.

He said that moving forward people had to call him the uncrowned AEW champion, and he forced Justin Roberts to announce him with his new title. He teased joining one of AEW’s stables.

    Class: B +

A squash match wouldn’t usually get such a high rating, but the way it was done and the post-fight promo made MJF superb.

The best thing about MJF’s argument is that he’s right. Moxley used a forbidden move during their match, and no one did anything about it. MJF may be a heel, but he is not a liar in this case.

It will be very interesting to see if he actually joins a team, especially since he and Jericho don’t seem to like each other although they are friendly when they are face to face.

5 of 8

Earlier on the show, Matt Hardy was found backstage after being attacked. He looked like he had an injured knee as Jericho and Hager mocked him nearby.

Hager started for his team and struggled to combat the speed and agility of Marq Quen and Isiah Kassidy. Once Y2J got the tag, he turned it around and took control.

The veterans were in control for most of the game, but the top youngsters weren’t about to go down without a fight. After a hot beacon, Quen defeated Jericho and Hager with a flurry of quick maneuvers.

After achieving victory with the Judas Effect, Jericho continued to attack Kassidy and locked him within the walls of Jericho. Quen made the stop, but the damage was done.

    Class: C +

The action in this game was good, but something about the pace just felt wrong. Sometimes it seemed like Private Party was slowing down when it shouldn’t.

It could be due to a lack of chemistry. These aren’t two teams that have faced each other a million times, so they never got to know each other.

The ending indicates that this could be an ongoing feud which would be great as these two teams have the potential to improve on that performance the next time they meet.

6 of 8

Hikaru Shida was shown staring from a crowd as Rosa and Ivelisse faced off for the NWA Women’s Championship, which marks the first time that this title has been defended in the AEW.

They started off by trading arm trails and various counters to establish that they were also qualified. Rosa was the first to hit a series of punches to gain control and score the first two count.

As the match continued, both women began to show signs of the damage they had done to themselves. They never slowed down too much, but they did it enough to show they were in pain.

Ivelisse failed to win with her finisher, and this gave Rosa the opening she needed to hit a headstone piledriver for the win to retain her title.

    Class: A

This match was all about physicality. Both women were hitting as hard as they could and using a lot of powerful moves to make it a great match.

Diamante attacking Rosa after the match allowed Shida to get involved. It’s clear AEW is working on a tag team match with the AEW Women’s Cup winners taking on the women’s champions AEW and NWA.

Seeing AEW build relationships with other promotions is great, but it needs to make sure that its own women’s division is the priority moving forward.

7 of 8

Archer went out with Jake Roberts to talk about Moxley’s pursuit of the AEW title. They were soon joined by Taz, who made Archer promise to give Brian Cage the first belt shot if he won it from Mox.

Moxley came out and was grabbed by a fan who turned out to be Ricky Starks. He and Cage ambushed the champion in the stands and beat him until Will Hobbs showed up with a chair to make the stop.

Mox grabbed a microphone and introduced Hobbs as one of his partners. He has said Darby Allin will be his second partner in next week’s six-a-side game against Cage, Archer and Starks.

    Class: B-

Archer teaming up with Cage and Starks was predictable, but Moxley adding Hobbs to his squad came as a pleasant surprise after Powerhouse recently signed with AEW.

This segment saw some good chaos in the stands as Starks and Cage attacked Moxley, and the exchange between Taz and Roberts did a good job, revealing their difficult alliance.

The six-man fight next week should be tough business.

8 of 8

Santana and Ortiz showed up with a skull-shaped face paint for the parking lot brawl with the best friends. The four immediately began to scuffle as several wrestlers cheered on them.

Trent put Ortiz under the hood of a car and punched him on top of him several times before the two men smacked smells on the hood to do even more damage.

They installed a piece of plywood on the bed of a truck, but Ortiz found his signature stick and used it to take the two men out. He hit a slingshot that sent Trent’s face into a tailgate.

Neither team has had the upper hand for a long time, which tends to be the way fights like this go. The more they went, the more violent they became.

Blood was spilled, bodies shattered and property damaged before Orange Cassidy climbed out of the trunk of a car and punched Santana with a huge punch with a chain wrapped around her fist.

Chuck Taylor hit Santana with a piledriver on a car while Trent ran Ortiz through a piece of plywood to get the pin and the win. Sue arrived with a repaired van to take the winners home. She made sure to leave Proud and Mighty before leaving.

    Class: A-

Anytime a promotion makes a match that takes place behind the scenes or in a parking lot, it always involves a lot of weapons and unique ways to use the environment to deal damage.

Both teams have had entertaining times throughout this fight. Ortiz almost killed Taylor with a sledgehammer was shocking to say the least.

It was a great way to showcase everyone involved. For two guys who hug a lot, Trent and Taylor came out of what looked like badass.
