The Australian accent is notoriously difficult to perfect for non-native speakers.

So it’s no surprise that many A-List actors struggled to conquer the Down Under dialect onscreen.

Monday, KIIS FMKyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson looked back on some of the most impressive – and embarrassing – attempts against an Australian by Hollywood film actors.

“Our memory was that she got the accent right, and a lot of people were like, ‘No, that was a terrible accent.’ So there’s a lot of debate as to whether she did or not, ”Jackie explained.

The radio star added that she “ still held ” Meryl’s accent, despite the detractors.

Kyle interjected, “ If you were an upper class, high society type, you would think Meryl Streep’s Aussie accent was sad. ”

After playing a short clip from the film, newsreader Brooklyn Ross couldn’t help but point out that Meryl’s nasal intonation made her look like politician Pauline Hanson.

Despite this, Kyle and Jackie gave Meryl their approval, stating that the acclaimed star had actually done a good job.

Kyle called the thespian’s accent ‘not bad’ after listening to a scene featuring Kate and her co-star Liam Hemsworth.
