A review of Hollywood Studios’ special Halloween snacks

If you know me, you know if there are any special snacks to eat at Walt Disney World, I’m here. I’ll bring an appetite and an open mind to any limited time treat, so stopping by Disney Hollywood Studios to try a few of their Halloween snacks was high on my to-do list. Fortunately, it was an easy task to accomplish.

Because Craig had already tried the cannoli, I opted for the other three: the poison candied apple, the pumpkin bread tiramisu and the Eclair chocolate bone box. Of course, with my impeccable timing, I showed up to the studios just as a storm was coming. Sigh. So, for the rest of this article, imagine me with a snack in one hand and an umbrella in the other, looking for a dry place to sit and snack on said snack. And imagine me with soaked shoes. Everything for the love of Disney snacks, right? Hope the spongy shoes are worth it.

Naturally, I decided to try the first treat I came across: Poison Candied Apple ($ 5.99) found at Trolley Car Caf. The Poison Apple is pre-packaged and awaiting purchase in the refrigerated case.

The candied apple with poison is a dessert that is really pleasing to the eye. Similar to the seasonal apple dessert offered last year, this treat features a shiny frosting exterior and a creamy mousse interior.

The majority of the inside of the mousse is said to be flavored with green apple. Green apple is one of my all-time favorite flavors, and I will buy just about any candy / treat / candy in the market sporting a bright green tint, but unfortunately the green apple mousse in this treat did not live up to my expectations. . When I think of something green apple flavored, I expect it to be tangy and bright and somewhat puckered. The mousse on this treat had a slight apple flavor, but it was by no means tart as you might think.

Poison candied apple is also believed to contain caramel mousse. I’m sure I looked a little silly as I sat there inspecting the treat for said caramel mousse. When I looked very closely at the cross section of the dessert, I noticed that there was a slight light brown color in the center of the snack. I didn’t detect a difference between the two flavors, but I appreciate the attention to detail to make the center of the treat look a bit like the heart of an apple. The base of the treat is described as a “crunchy candy base”. It could have been Florida humidity, but the base wasn’t exactly crisp. It took on a somewhat sticky oat / haystack consistency, if that makes sense. I liked it, but it didn’t necessarily feel like candy to me.

If you take the poison candied apple out of the plastic box it is served in, be forewarned: the red icing will stain your hands. I wouldn’t like to think about what that might do on a white shirt, so be extra careful or eat it right away.

The next snack on my radar was the box of Bones Eclair chocolate ($ 5.49) found at Backlot Express. I opened the My Disney Experience app and ordered one of the treats from the “Halloween Exclusive” category on the Backlot Express deals page. After only a few minutes, I was sent the notification that my treat was ready.

The Box of Bones is an eclair made of chocolate choux pastry, dark chocolate mousse and white chocolate “bone”. The treat is kept in the refrigerated case, so it comes to you quite cold.

The choux pastry flash was chewy and firm at the same time, and was quite good. The dark chocolate mousse was the star. It was thick, creamy and substantial. I’m going to take this mousse all day on my own. The white chocolate bones helped make the dessert cute and photogenic, and provided an extra layer of snack enjoyment. I would definitely buy this snack again.

My last Halloween snack of the afternoon came courtesy of Rosie’s All-American on Sunset Boulevard. Let me take a moment to tell you, I’m so grateful that I put my umbrella back with me when I was in the park. The Backlot Express ride to Rosie’s is clear through the park, and without my precious little umbrella sporting a flamingo, I would have been completely drenched. If you’re going to a park in the summer or early fall, throw a little something to help with the rain in your park bag. You will be glad you did. That’s just my opinion. Come back to our regular schedule.

Just a minute after placing my mobile order for the Pumpkin Tiramisu ($ 4.99), I received the notification that it was ready for pickup. Luckily there are a lot of umbrella covered tables in the Sunset Ranch Market area near Rosie’s so I was able to find a dry place to try the treat.

I walked over to try the Pumpkin Tiramisu with images of pumpkin rolls dancing in my head. I had just seen a photo of a gorgeous cream-filled pumpkin roll on social media, and I thought this dessert would look like this. Unfortunately, this was not the case.

The spicy pumpkin bread used in place of lady’s fingers that you would normally find in tiramisu was light on the spice and pumpkin flavor. I really wanted the pumpkin flavor to be some variety in your face, but it wasn’t. It was almost undetectable. The mascarpone cream was good, but like the pumpkin bread / cake it was not remarkable. The dusting of unsweetened cocoa powder on top of the treat provided a bitter contrast to the rest of the dessert, but the overall flavor of the treat left me disappointed. I would not repurchase this snack.

Of the three treats I tried, the Chocolate Eclair bone box was by far the star. The interesting texture of the snack and the amazing thick dark chocolate mousse filling made it a memorable and enjoyable snack. And, thankfully, Backlot Express has both indoor seating and plenty of covered seating outside. If you savor the treat in the middle of a monsoon, you’re covered. Literally.

One of the biggest joyful dances of the afternoon came from an extra step I took before heading to the park: I grabbed 3 plastic food containers and threw them in my bag back. Ryno and I recently spoke our playpen bags sure The best and the worst of Walt Disney World, and explained that I recently found myself enjoying half a cupcake around the Magic Kingdom in two of those cardboard food boats that Disney food is often served in. Not funny.

I knew I couldn’t finish everything on site at the Studios, so I knew the reusable plastic containers would come in handy. And they did. In fact, while writing about this earlier, I went to the fridge and had another bite of pumpkin tiramisu to make sure I didn’t miss a thing. Containers to take away for victory!
