Filming for new Spider-Man movie set to begin in Queens

Queens’ most famous hero returns home.
Filming notices posted to Astoria this week slyly suggested that the filming of the third installment of the finalSpider Manmarvel studios franchisewill begin next week on 31st Avenue and 23rd Street.
Put on hold at the height of the COVID-19 crisis, filming is scheduled to begin in the neighborhood on Thursday, October 15 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Filming will continue Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Filming as Serenity Now, a reference to another native Queens son, Frank Costanza fromSeinfeld, the thirdSpider Manfilm follows in the tradition of the two previous films.
Spider Man:Back homefilmed under the working title Summer of George, andSpider Man:Far from homebegan filming under the title Fall of George, both of which were names ofSeinfeldepisodes.
The Costanzas and Peter Parker are both from Queens. While Parker grew up in Forest Hills, the Costanzas lived in Astoria after “driving my family out of Bayside,” as George once recalled.
The fictional heroes’ house at 20 Ingram St., Forest Hills, is also home to a true coincidence. In 2002,TimesLedger Newspapers reportedthe house was owned by Andrew and Suzanne Parker, who share a last name with the young hero. But the strange connection didn’t end there. Across the street lived Herbert Osborn and Maxwell Osborne, who share a last name with Spider-Mans’ nemesis, the Green Goblin, also known as Norman Osborn.
Film and television production was halted in New York in March, as the COVID-19 pandemic began to take hold. It resumed at the end of July.
