Adele explains her surprise concert live on Saturday night
In the midst of what has become a weekly efficiency talk Saturday Night Live this year so far, the long line of comedy sketches changed the conversation on Sunday afternoon by announcing Adele as his next host.
But in a twist, the singer who last made a TV appearance in 2016 will also not serve as a musical guest, like artists like Taylor Swift and Chance the rapper have done in the past when they have been chosen to host. Instead, Adele will simply host the show like she’s just an ordinary celebrity. (SHE was chosen as the musical guest for the episode.) How did that happen? Adele herself provided answers on Sunday.

I’ve always wanted to do it on my own, so I could roll up my sleeves and dive into it fully, but the time was never right. But if there was a moment for either of us to jump head first into the depths with our eyes closed and hope for the best, right 2020?
Adele made her first appearance on Saturday Night Live 12 years to the day of Sunday’s announcement, as a musical guest on an episode hosted by Josh brolin. As she wrote, the performance interrupted my career in America so it came full circle and I just couldn’t say no! Adele also appeared as the musical guest on a 2015 episode hosted by Matthew McConaughey.
Yet, while Adele has starred in numerous awards over the course of her career, she has remained rather elusive when it comes to booking television appearances where she’s not just asked to sing. She was last widely seen in an episode of The late show with James corden in 2016, where she participated in the late-night rideshare karaoke segment, he traded quick jokes with Corden. This year, rather than organized media hits, the singer has focused on her Instagram presence, posting a number of photos that have caught the public’s attention due to, among other things, her physical appearance, her devotion at Beyonc, or his controversial outfit.
But acting as an actor has long interested Adele. In 2015, after starring in the video for his single Hello for the Director Xavier Dolan, Adele said she had hoped to do more. So far no one has accepted it.
Season 46 of Saturday Night Live presented Chris rock, Bill burr, and Issa Rae as hosts so far. The show is in the midst of an unprecedented series of consecutive episodes that will run until October 31, just before the 2020 presidential election.
