Video shows rapper Offset being held by officers in Beverly Hills; police say he was not arrested but that another man was

After a video showed online showing rapper Offset being detained by police officers, the Beverly Hills Police Department said on Saturday night that the artist had not been arrested but that another man was then a pro-Trump rally was taking place nearby.

Marcelo Almanzar, 20, was arrested on suspicion of pointing a gun at a person near South Santa Monica Boulevard and North Beverly Drive, police said. Officials said the person provided a license plate number that matched the description of the vehicle officers found Almanzar inside.

“There have been reports in the media that the artist Offset has been arrested. These reports are inaccurate, ”Beverly Hills Police Lt. Max Subin wrote in a statement to KTLA.

Officers stopped the vehicle a short distance from where the alleged crime took place, Subin said. He said police received a report of gun-wielding around 5:02 p.m.

Los Angeles County inmate files show Almanzar was arrested at 5:30 p.m. and booked into a Beverly Hills police station at 6:14 p.m. He was being held on $ 35,000 bond.

No information on his potential release was available at 10 p.m. on Saturday.

During his arrest, the person he allegedly pointed a gun at refused to press charges, police said.

The video originally posted by Offset shows the rapper refusing to take his hands off a steering wheel when at least three officers approach his vehicle. They ask him to take his hands off the wheel but he refuses, saying he can see they have guns. Eventually, they open his door and appear to force him out of the vehicle just before the end of the video.

During a 56-second clip of the meeting, a policewoman told Offset, “We were told you were brandishing guns at people.”

“You just watched someone beat my car with a flag. What are you talking about? ”Replied the rapper.

Later, a policeman begins to open the door to Offset’s car, reaching the vehicle as the rapper tells him, “You can’t just open my door. It’s illegal. ”He repeatedly threatens to sue the officers during the brief clip.

The officer continues to try to open the door until a female officer reaches and helps him open it. They both appear to physically remove Offset from the vehicle.
