Drew McIntyre Title Race Ends With Whimper After Insane Loss To Randy Orton | Launderer report

Drew McIntyre deserved better.
That’s the main theme that emerges from WWE’s Hell in a Cell on Sunday night, where one of the best high-profile champions in recent memory spat out his title at Randy Orton.
Normally losing to a modern legend like Orton wouldn’t be that bad, but the surrounding circumstances stink.here we go againof WWE.
It’s not that it wasn’t a tough game or that Orton isn’t able to take down McIntyre. Clearly he is. But the feud had lasted far too long, and the Scotsman had constantly knocked the Viper down. It doesn’t help that it’s blatant that the feud only materialized in the first place because Edge was injured and Orton had nothing else to do as well.
Maybe it’s appropriate for WWE to slowly move up the side of the cage, then back down before one of them gently throws himself across the table (that’s Hell in a Cell’s failed barricade now).
Let’s feel free to add that it was bordering on predictability once it was clear that this Hell in a Cell match was shutting down the show. If he beat Roman Reigns-Jey Uso and Sasha Banks-Bayley, he felt either some sort of interference again or a straight win from Orton. This is the only reason to put it last.
It’s a bit worthy of moaning now to think that a feud that only started because of a third party injury, and has gone on for far too long, will continue as McIntyre seeks to reclaim his title. Maybe the idea is that he’s better in chase mode.
And hey it’s true when he’s stalking Brock Lesnar. Unless WWE has a crystal ball and can figure out exactly when fans will be allowed to fully pack stadiums again, this version of chase mode for McIntyre will never be able to match his incredible sprint last season at WrestleMania.
WrestleMania is also part of the problem. It feels like WWE is starting to watch next year’s centerpiece and move those chess pieces around the board. Knowing how much Vince McMahon likes to book things, winning Orton No.14 just in time for the feud with Edge is the move.
But, as always, McMahon & Co. have a habit of slapping a headline on things that don’t really need it (very personal feuds like Edge-Orton don’t need fancy gold belts). That’s why Charlotte Flair has been weirdly inserted into perfectly fine feuds in the past, and a returning Goldberg has needlessly torn guys like The Fiend apart. This is why Lesnar brutalized Kofi Kingston so that he could have a dud with Cain Velasquez.
Edge-Orton doesn’t need a title to be a draw. Slapping one on that to do it doesn’t do McIntyre a favor. The company just bent over backwards to establish him as the best guy on Raw, creating quite a Royal Rumble around his journey that led him to take down The Beast Incarnate.
Best of all, he then had an incredible run, exceeding most expectations in this odd time without an audience. He never had his big hit in front of a live crowd, but he made brawls with Dolph Ziggler as captivating as possible despite the real-world quirks and its impact on the product.
Instead, McIntyre loses Sunday night and if he doesn’t have the chance to try to reclaim his title, he’s going to be relegated to the middle of the map as Orton heads to Survivor Series for a date. you with Roman Reigns (maybe?). Why this place can’t belong to the Scotsman is hard to say, and if WWE isn’t careful, all of that hard work to establish it could go down in the tubes if it becomesjust another guy on the list again.
The way WWE built McIntyre, it was as if only a Lesnar comeback could be a serious threat to his time. Instead of losing to a guy he had flogged several times before, including throwing him in the back of an ambulance, it seems anticlimactic at best and disrespectful at worst.
WWE also didn’t try to save her much. There wasn’t an Edge, The Miz, or anyone else to hint at the sequel. The pay-per-view has just ended. Orton with the top title sounds great, but he had already lost speed without Edge to serve as a sadistic victim. Any quick attempt to correct that and put the title back on McIntyre will leave fans wondering “what was the point?” Sunday evening.
Sadly, WWE fans now know that this is a short-term, corporate approach, even with the Scotsman and everything he put into him as a better guy.
McIntyre’s run was always supposed to end, but seeing it end with a moan like this hurts.
