Selena Gomez spoke about her bipolar disorder in an Instagram with Miley Cyrus

On Friday, singer and actress Selena Gomez spoke about her own story with mental illness during a frank discussion on Miley Cyrus’ Instagram Live series, telling Cyrus that she had been hospitalized at McLean Hospital in Boston and diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
Recently I went to one of the best hospitals in the world, or America, McLean, and discussed that after going through years of different things, I realized that I was bipolar, said Gomez to Cyrus. It is not surprising that Gomez chose to open up to Cyrus; the singer was open to her own depression, saying in a past interview“I went through a time when I was really depressed. Like, I locked myself in my room and my father had to break my door.”
Gomez encouraged viewers to “be gentle” with themselves during this difficult period of self-isolation and social distancing, saying, “This is where we test ourselves. How are we going to treat each other? other?” Gomez also recommended tools she learned to have learned in therapy to help cope with the stress of social estrangement, including reading poetry and spending time in nature.
