WWE travels to Hollywood with Boneyard Match, Undertaker buries AJ Styles
The WWE Boneyard game went in a different direction than what other WrestleMania 36 games did on the first night. WWE has become Hollywood.
Obviously, this was not going to be the kind of production that everyone liked. That said, the overall feedback on social media from the Boneyard match at WrestleMania 36 was extremely positive. From a “Hollywood” feel to a new hybrid character to a ton of post-production, it was definitely different.

As the match began to close the show, the camera’s first photo featured a smoky shot of a cemetery. Styles stopped in a hearse, emerging from a coffin. He claimed that he was not at all afraid and that a motorcycle roar could be heard in the background as Metallica exploded with the Undertaker going up. His entry included an enlarged photo of his boots and a panoramic view of his profile, as we could see when the hero first arrives in a blockbuster movie.
Like a film, the credits even showed its name and its music and its cinematographic score played throughout the fights in multiple situations. At times, the action occurred with the sound effects of the punches added. The only real difference here is that each wrestler has performed their own stunts.
When The Undertaker threw Styles into the grave, the O.C. then appeared, with a number of hooded figures. Surrounded, Undertaker said, “If we’re going to do this, do it.” and started taking it to everyone.
The pace slowed, AJ finally took over and sent Taker through a fence. He spoke to her in the trash, saying that he just didn’t have enough. Undertaker knocked Styles over the bird when it looked like it was on its last legs.
Taker then beat Styles until he finally threw him into the grave and buried him alive.
What is the next step for WWE?
Many people will eagerly await the Firefly Fun House and others will fear it. But, it will be interesting to see if WWE uses comments received from the match and does so at any time in the future when fans return. Obviously, it was not something they would have considered in a full arena.
