ITV Love Island ‘to start casting in January’ for summer comeback
The beloved reality TV show was canceled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, but it was promised it would come back stronger than ever in 2021.
And it looks like ITV is keeping that promise.
According to reports, the producers of the dating show ITV2 were given the green light to begin casting for the all-new series in January with hopes of reopening the villa in May.
Reality shows can now have huge throws living together as long as all participants and crew have isolated themselves for a full two weeks in advance, as well as regular temperature tests both on and off the set, said an insider.
The source continued to The sun: There is obviously always an element of risk, but ITV bosses feel it’s time to get the wheels on Love Island going, with a view to doing so in early summer.
It was announced in May that this year’s edition of Love Island would be put on hold due to the pandemic.
We have tried every means to create Love Island this summer, but logistically it is just not possible to produce it in a way that preserves the well-being of everyone involved and that is for us the priority, confirmed ITV boss Kevin Lygo.
Under normal circumstances we would be preparing to travel to Mallorca very soon to prepare the villa, but that is clearly out of the question.

Casting had already started on Love Island’s summer 2020 series, with ITV receiving a record number of applicants.
