Recording Night 2 – Firefly Fun House, title changes


The only way to keep track of WrestleMania’s incredible first night was with the epic part the second – and WWE hit this one out of the park again.

The Firefly entertainment house was perfectly bizarre, the Scottish psychopath won his first WWE heavyweight title, and the women stole the show on multiple fronts. All in all, she made the perfect second night for the two-hour extravaganza of WrestleMania 36.

We couldn’t have said it better, Kurt. And now, consider what was a spectacular night of sports fun, right?

The main card immediately warmed up as we opened with Ripley defending his NXT title against the Queen, unloaded in a Z-inspired ring dress:

After the early Riptide of Ripley failed to remove Flair, Charlotte took control of the match, focusing on Rhea’s left leg with stomachs, surrender retention, ring attacks and vicious cubes on the back of her legs.

These two women were put into the house, beating each other for nearly 30 minutes in a physical, violent fight, and Ripley looked like time would turn as time went on:

But Flair’s attention to detail proved the difference as she locked in Figure Four, merged into Figure Eight, and became a three-time NXT female champion as Ripley stepped out:

To the Queen, it was a well-deserved birthday present, with WWW Rege Young in the backstage calling him an “absolutely tough, brutal duel” and an early contender for stealing the show the other night:

The following Aleister Black and Bobby Lashley entered the ring, in the match Lashley had in his hand, until Lana told him to change course and bring Black with a spear. Lashley listened, but ran right into the Black Mass that brought Black the victory.

From the battle of beef to romantic beef, the Otis, Dolph Ziggler and Mandy Rose saga took center stage.

Otis deserved revenge on Ziggler, throwing him around the ring and setting up Caterpillar, which made Sonya Deville distract the clerk. Dolph hit Otis with a big capital punch – but that called for Mandy Rose, who hit Sonja, hit Ziggler under the belt and left in the arms of the victorious Otis.

Awwwwwww! What a magical moment. You know, minus all the kicks.

The good times, however, ended abruptly as Randy Orton ambushed Edge by disguising himself as a cameraman before their last match, which surprised RKO out of nowhere:

Two friends turned into enemies who fought throughout the performance center, leaving a massacre in their infatuation and taking advantage of every inch of space, including Edge, using a ladder to release a huge elbow at Orton through the table:

Edge and Orton made their way to the loading dock, where the Viper seized a Rated-R Superstar with a DDT on top of the truck. Edge nevertheless recovered as the two climbed to the top of the trailer, exchanging spears and RKOs.

Orton got down and grabbed a couple of chairs, seemingly to place a Con-armchair on Edge. But the Hall of Fame objected, locking Orton in the throttle and making him inanimate before lifting his chair and delivering a devastating blow to the steel chair with Orton’s head on another steel chair:

That deadly fight between former title holders gave way to a title change and title defense.

First, Gronk became WWE Champion for the first time, winning the championship 24/7:

Then The Street Profits defended their Raw Tag Team titles against Angel Garza and Austin Theory, with a little help from Biance Belair, NXT Superstar and better half Montez Ford neutralized by Zelina Vega:

Perhaps inspired by the profits (probably not, but anyway), Bayley next defended her WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship in a five-way elimination match that included her best friend, Sasha Banks.

Despite some tension and lack of communication between the two, Banks returned to the ring after being eliminated to help Bayley put in Lacey Evans to win:

Now, with all due respect to all the excellent matches on the card, here’s what many have been expecting with a breath in their breath – a Firefly Fun House match between John Cena and The Fiend.

Cena made his standard entrance, only for Fiend to overtake the show and invite Cena to the party house, where he walked in through the door and met… a Vince McMahon doll.

The former Thuganomics doctor has been on a long journey. First, Wyatt (not THE Fiend) forced Cena to re-live his WWE debut, which the former cult leader called Cena the biggest failure. Then the two joined forces to promote an 80s-style Saturday night:

Indeed, it was poetic. Cena kept answering every stage of his career before Fiend felt his presence and literally grabbed Mandible’s face with a claw:

That left only one match on the WrestleMania 36 card – the WWE Championship clash between Brock Lesnar and Drew McIntyre.

The two behemoths immediately went to war, trading Claymore Kicks and F5s:

But McIntyre got the edge, equaling Lesnar with several Claymores in a row to win his first WWE Championship:
