Foreign star Jay Benedict dies from 68-year-old coronavirus
Extraterrestrial actor Jay Benedict died of a coronavirus at the age of 68, it was confirmed.
The actor died on Saturday April 4 following a battle against the Covid-19 virus, which left nearly 5,000 people dead in the UK.
In a statement, his management team said: It is with deep sadness that we must announce the death of the Jays on April 4 due to complications resulting from a Covid-19 infection.
Benoît is survived by his wife Phoebe Scholfield and their two sons Léopold and Freddie. The actor also had another daughter from a previous relationship.
The American actor was best known for playing Russ Jordan in the 1986 science fiction epic James Camerons alongside Sigourney Weaver and Bill Paxton.
However, he also appeared in The Dark Knight Rises and starred as John Kieffer, the U.S. military officer and friend of Christopher Foyle in Foyles War.
Recalling his time on the set of extraterrestrials, Benoît said once in an interview: When I presented myself on set, there was practically a strike and a riot all in one and I remember the first announcement that m said: You chose a bad day to come and do your shooting days. All went out.
With his wife, Jay ran the post-production company Sync or Swim, which provides automated dialogue replacement services to the film and television industry.
The company’s recent projects include Downton Abbey, Call The Midwife, Dickensian and Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands.
Tributes to Benedict have multiplied with Only Fools and Horses star John Challis who tweeted: Strangest coincidence this morning: talking on the phone to my brother-in-law and telling him that my old friend Jay Benedict died yesterday .
