Shyne, former Bad Boy artist, elected to Belize House of Representatives
Although he was notoriously forced into retirement decades ago, Moses “Shyne” Barrow’s post-rap career has been hugely successful.
Belize held its national elections on Wednesday in which Shyne won Mesopotamia’s seat in Belize City in the House of Representatives. Barrow took to Instagram where he celebrated his victory by reminding his followers that he went from “HIP HOP TO HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES !!!”
“Thank you MESOPOTAMIE !!! It is with the greatest humility that I accept this victory for us!” he wrote. “This victory is for all who are like me in Mesopotamia, Belize and around the world! All who have fallen! All who have stumbled in the way of their lives. We all fall! But to stand up and walk , running and getting up is the goal of life! “
Shyne was in prison from 2001-2009 for his hand in a nightclub shoot involving his former label boss, Diddy. Shyne has been charged with attempted murder, assault and reckless endangerment. Upon his release, he was deported to his native Belize where he became involved in politics.
In addition, politics is the business of the Barrow family. Although her father, Dean Barrow, was replaced as Prime Minister of the country by John Briceño, Shyne’s sister, Denise “Sista B” Barrow, won the constituency of Queen’s Square.
