The leftover pecan bourbon chocolate cake tasted as good as it did when I first made it. Heck, maybe even better. It’s always a sign of a good cake.

• I was reminded yesterday that there is still a group of Bears fans holding him against Julius Peppers for signing with the Packers as a free agent. Never mind that Phil Emery released the Peppers from the Bears contract and then signed Jared Allen to replace him. Somehow, Peppers bears much of the criticism for something he mostly couldn’t control.
• Could he have signed to any of the other 30 teams in the league? Of course. And while I was certainly disappointed to see Peppers sign Green Bay when he did, it’s hard for me to steam beef with him. In fact, I’m still angry with Emery for cutting him down and then bringing in Allen – who spent less time in Chicago as a Peppers replacement than Peppers in Green Bay. Good move, Phil.

    • Cutler with the option of throwing in four big types or lecturing or throwing a top running back is what Matt Nagy dreams probably do as a game designer.
  • My defense in decades of defense: Julius Peppers (EDGE), Akiem Hicks (DT), Eddie Goldman (DT), Khalil Mack (EDGE), Lance Briggs (LB), Brian Urlacher (LB), Kyle Fuller (CB), Peanut Tillman (CB), Tim Jennings (CB) Eddie Jackson (S), Adrian Amos (S).
    • Maybe I’m stretching it a little with Urlacher, Briggs and Tillman. But these guys were so good in the early part of the decade that I couldn’t let them off the team.
  • My special teams for the whole decade: Robbie Gould (PK), Pat O’Donnell (P), Devin Hester (PR), Cordarrelle Patterson (KR).
• Imagine having to prepare to stop these two:

• Good luck defending! Best wishes to those on the punch teams! And opposing defenses can fire if Cutler is asked to throw him 50 times per game. Otherwise this team is pretty solid.
• Inaccurate list of players who might be eating meat with me because I snagged them: Jordan Howard, Danny Trevathan, Prince Amukamara, Henry Melton, Brad Maynard.
• Remember when Tim Jennings made the Pro Bowl in the years back? This has happened in the last decade!
