“We try to have fun with it. We keep on spinning words as much as we can,” said Cathy Popick, who, along with quarantine karaoke, brought the neighborhood to Oak Park.
Popick has become a rhyming maestro.
“COVID is not really easy,” she said.
“Some of them work, some don’t, but anyway,” said Bernard Norwood, the Edmer Avenue songwriter.

At 8:30 every day, Oak Park’s front lawns are transformed into stages; retirees turn into rock stars, and fathers become Frank Sinatra.

The show will last until the shelter is over.
“It’s probably one of the best times of the day,” Norwood said.
It is also the perfect excuse to check in on neighbors while practicing social distance learning.
Neighbors from Edmer Avenue will sing their version of Simon and Garfunkel’s “Sounds of Silence.”
