Bobbie Battista dead: former CNN anchor was 67
Battista anchored the coverage of major events, including the explosion of the Challenger space shuttle, the assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan and the Gulf War.
Bobbie Battista, who was among the original anchors for CNN Headline News and hosted CNN TalkBack Live, is dead. She was 67 years old.
Battista died on Tuesday after a four-year battle with cervical cancer, family spokeswoman Wendy Guarisco told CNN.
"Bobbie was the consummate rider in her fight against cancer, she was brave and fearless in her battle and thoughtful for everyone else in her life as she battled the pain," said Battista's husband John Brimelow, in a statement. "My dear partner of 25 years of marriage has broken his earthly ties and is now at peace."
During his career from 1981 to 2001 with the cable media company, Battista anchored coverage of major events, including the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger, the assassination attempt on the president Ronald Reagan and the Gulf War.
When she moved from CNN Headline News to CNN in 1988, she anchored shows that included CNN NewsHour.
Early in her career, Battista worked as a local presenter and producer for WRAL-TV in Raleigh, North Carolina. In 1981, she was screenwriter and assistant producer of the award-winning documentary at the Peabody Awards. Fed up with fear.
