Marathi actor in trouble for FB post against Buddhists
Rabale police have filed a case against actor Marathi Ketaki Chitale, as well as a Facebook user, for his message on Sunday.
Swapnil Jagtap (26), a resident of Ghansoli and a final year law student at Ambedkar Yuva Sangh, said in his complaint that he had received a screenshot on WhatsApp on the message from Ms. Chitales and a commentary published by a Suraj Shinde.
Jagtap said Ms. Chitale gave six pointers with comments on Muslims, Parsis, Jains, Christians and Buddhists. She said that on December 6 of each year, Buddhists went to Mumbai for free, spreading a very bad message. Below his post, a Mr. Shinde wrote very objectionable comments on Babasaheb Ambedkar, Mata Ramabai Bheemrao Ambedkar and Mahatma Jyotiba Phule. The comments were such that no one would even want to read them.
Jagtap said the remarks were plain and simple insult and a casteist, which is illegal. He said: I do not personally know Mrs. Chitale or Mr. Shinde and I have no information on their place of residence. Mr. Shinde, in his commentary, boasted of being a Maratha and degraded Buddhists.
A case was registered against Ms. Chitale and Mr. Shinde on Tuesday under section 295 (injuring or defiling a place of worship with the intention of insulting religion of any class) of the Penal Code Indian and certain listed caste and tribe articles (1989 Atrocity Prevention Act).
Vinayak Vast, Deputy Police Commissioner, Vashi Division, said: “ The case was taped by the Rabale police and would be investigated by me as the cases falling under Atrocities law should be reviewed by an assistant police commissioner. Once the case is passed on to me, the persons mentioned in the first information report would be called upon to record statements.
