Mrs Brown’s Boys actor Damien McKiernan becomes SECOND star to sue show creator Brendan O’Carroll

A second BBC star, Mrs Brown’s Boys, is suing for unfair dismissal, intimidation and discrimination after being sacked from the sitcom.

Damien McKiernan, 54, who played Rory Brown from December 2017, is taking legal action against series creator and lead actor Brendan O’Carroll, 65.

He is the second actor in the series in just a week to announce a lawsuit against Mr. O’carroll, who plays series star Agnes Brown, The sun reports.

A source on the show told the Daily Star: ‘Damien has decided to take legal action. He does not feel he has been treated fairly and wants justice done.

Mr McKiernan filed a formal complaint with the BBC after being fired from the show in October, but decided to take legal action once the issues were not resolved, the publication reports.

Gary Hollywood, 41, who played Dino Doyle on the BAFTA-winning show and left the show in the fall, also launched a lawsuit, claiming he was ‘treated unfairly’.

He is suing Mr. O’Carroll for professional dismissal and discrimination at work.

Mr Hollywood told the Daily Star he was ‘ignored’ after trying to fix the issue and ‘was not being paid as well’.

The actor claims he was paid less than his co-stars for the All Round To Mrs Brown’s spinoff show and says he was kicked out of a festive special after raising the issue.

The show’s boss, Mr. O’Carroll, says he and Mr. Hollywood were on good terms when he decided to quit the show, The Sun reports.

Mr Hollywood is also taking legal action against the BBC.

Last month, Mr O’Carroll confirmed he had signed a new deal to ensure the popular BBC sitcom will continue to do its Christmas specials until at least 2026.

He added that the new contract ensures that every festive edition he creates will receive a coveted 10-hour slot each Christmas day.

The news comes as the show, typically a Christmas Day classic, received its worst ratings in nearly a decade.

The show, which aired on Christmas Day at 10 p.m., was watched by 3.8 million viewers, a significant drop from the 11 million who watched in 2013 and the 4.6 million viewers the last year.

While the show has long been a TV favorite, it was beaten this year by Call The Midwife (5.4 million) and the Strictly Christmas special (4.9 million).

A source told MailOnline earlier this month: ‘Brendan is lying through his prosthesis to save face and save the show.

“ Brendan knows this but said it in the hope that no one will really notice it because he tries to be complimentary about Gary, saying it was amicable. It was far from amicable.

The source went on to say that the rest of the cast were “ too scared to stand up to Brendan ” and that the series was in turmoil behind the scenes.

“The future of entertainment is at stake here. Although it is divided, it is extremely popular with a lot of people.

“ One of the reasons is that they seem like family not only on camera but also on the outside. They are all meant to be paid equally and they are all meant to be one big, happy family.

Behind the scenes, it’s far from it. It has been brewing for a very long time and everyone saw it coming.

Of course, brushing him under the rug and trying to rewrite the story won’t help – but everyone’s too scared to stand up to Brendan for fear of getting cut, just like Gary did.

“Gary was loved by the cast, crew and fans alike. His character Dino was one of the most popular on the show and fans are very upset to see him go.

Representatives for the BBC and Brendan O’Carroll declined to comment.
