When you want a star, maybe Beyonc will appear.

Viewers enjoyed a surprise appearance by Queen Bey on Thursday during “The Disney Family Singalong”, an ABC special designed to provide spoonfuls of sugar like in the classic “Mary Poppins” and a brighter mood during the tough times of coronaviruses .

The cavalcade of stars, many of which occur from their living room and kitchen, also featured Christina Aguilera, Ariana Grande, Josh Groban and Demi Lovato.

Scenes from classic Disney animated films provided colorful backdrops for many performances, which obviously had to be limited in scope. The lyrics ran down the screen, with a set of gold Mickey Mouse ears making a bouncing ball imitation to help the singers at home.

Beyonc, an unexpected addition, dedicated “When you want a star” from “Pinocchio” to “all the healthcare workers who have worked tirelessly to keep our health and safety.” After a painful performance, accompanied by a piano, she offered words of encouragement: “Please hold on to your family. Please be safe. Do not give up hope. We’ll get through. I promise. God bless you. “

A highlight of the hour-long special, which was hosted by “American Idol” pillar Ryan Seacrest and encouraged donations to Feed America, was a group performance of the appropriate title “We are all together”, a success of “High School Musical”, which brought together Kenny Ortega, director of the 2006 original, and stars Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale and Corbin Blue.

They were joined by stars from other Disney TV movies and series, including Dove Cameron, Booboo Stewart, Sofia Carson from “Descendants”, Milo Manheim and Meg Donnelly from “Zombies”, and Joshua Bassett and Olivia Rodrigo from Disney + “High School Musical: The Musical: The series.”

In another great collaboration, Tony Award winner James Monroe Iglehart and eight members of Aladdin’s Broadway company teamed up for “Friend Like Me”. At one point, their arrangement of nine boxes looked like an opening to “The Brady Bunch”.

Aguilera added an intimate touch, giving her dog a little pic before singing “Can you feel the love tonight.” The dog seemed perfectly at peace resting next to the superstar singer. She kissed the viewers at home when she finished.

“When was the last time you sang with Christina Aguilera?” asked Seacrest, who was accompanied by ceramic versions of Mrs. Potts and Chip from “Beauty and the Beast”.

The feel at home was evident in many of the performances, while Little Big Town, divided into three groups, performed Julie Andrews’ famous “A Spoonful of Sugar” in their different kitchens, with their children.

Derek Hough, a former member of “Dancing With the Stars” and his girlfriend, dancer Hayley Erbert, took advantage of their limits, wearing bright period costumes as they danced in the kitchen. Hough’s sister Julianne called the half-performance, joining a split screen in a sparkly blue dress.

Kimberly Schlapman, joined by the family, was in the kitchen with delicious sweets singing `` A Spoonful of Sugar '' from `` Mary Poppins '' with her bandmates from Little Big Town, performing in their kitchens during ` `` The Disney Family Singalong ''.

Josh Groban, accompanied by children singing and dancing in remote places, sang “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from “Toy Story”, while Donny Osmond made the most of the family theme by singing a song popular of “Mulan”, “I will make you a man” with his grandchildren.

In another representation of “Mulan”, Aulii Cravalho made a split screen in synchronization with her animated main character, interpreting “How far will I go”. Cravalho, inherited from the house where lively Mulan was riding the waves in a boat, said the song, written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, was appropriate for today with so many people “feeling stuck where you are, but wanting more of life and dreaming of the future. “

Tall, glamourously made and wearing a purple shawl on a silver top, had the most professional performance, a level of music video “I won’t say that I’m in love” with “Hercules”, “my favorite Disney movie # 1 . “At one point, the singer, appearing on several screens, provided her own harmony of support.

The show found creative ways to bring the artists together, with “Beauty” composer Alan Menken and a framed split screen of Josh Gad and Luke Evans above his piano, joining “Gaston”.

Other songs included “Colors of the Wind” by “Pocahontas” (Tori Kelly), Let It Go by “Frozen” (Amber Riley); and I Wanna Be Like You from “The Jungle Book (Darren Criss). Criss cut several takes, played the guitar, provided percussion and sang.
