Bollywood & Bhangra Family Dance Day at Gordon School

Family Dance Day returns to Gordon School with a feast for the senses that draws on the contributions of three Gordon families. March Family Dance Day is an introduction to Bhangra and Bollywood styles for all ages led by Rupa Datta, co-founder of Dance Bollywood Fusion and Fitness.

Datta, parent of a seventh grade student of Gordon, is a lifelong dancer who teaches exercise and dance while working as a non-profit administrator. Thanks to Dance BFF, she has worked with hundreds of students of all ages and has brought Bhangra and Bollywood styles to dozens of regional festivals and concerts.

The day also serves as the launch party for Patterns of India, a new book by Christine Chitnis. Chitnis is an author, photographer and mother of two students from Gordon Lower School. She is the author of Patterns of India: A Journey Through Colors, Textiles and the Vibrancy of Rajasthan after a decade of traveling to India with her husband and children.

Coffee, fruit and juice will be available at the launch of the book, with food provided by Ajay Vinoben and Alli-Michelle Conti from the Indian restaurant Providence after the dance.

Gordon Family Dance Days were created to bring generations together through music and dance. The first two Family Dance Days were chaired by Rodney López, an arts educator who uses ballroom dancing conventions to develop social skills and build a sense of community among Gordon's fifth year.
