Voeten shows his creations during Fashion Week 2020 in Alabama – The Madison Record
MADISON Madison's young designer Lizzy Voeten, 17, continued to define her niche as a designer during Fashion Week 2020 in Alabama.
Voeten is a junior at James Clemens High School.
Lizzy Voeten continues to advance in the fashion world as a designer. After a successful fashion show at Alabama Fashion Week 2019, she created a new haute couture line called Livashion for the 2020 fashion show from March 5 to 8, said Lizzys' mother Laura Voeten.
Livashion presented eight Voetens pieces, inspired by different flowers. The collection informs people about the beauty of nature and how people should protect it and allow it to flourish.
The Alabama Fashion Alliance presented Fashion Week for the ninth year. The event includes four days of fashion show and networking for fashion influencers.
Several designers from across the United States and local retailers opened salons on March 6 at the Century BMW Showroom in Huntsville. The location passed to the Shelby Center of the University of Alabamas on March 7.
That same day, Voeten participated in the Avant Garde Competition, which showcases creativity, diversity and sewing techniques, while uniting the fashion community. Eight models showed his creations. Lizzys' siblings – two younger brothers and his sister – and Laura were on the podium. Dallas LaGrand, Yudam Jeong, Sophia Hughes and Lexi Lee walked for Lizzy.
Lizzy works closely with AFA photographers, such as Vic Vergara and Derrick Williams. It is about working together with creative minds. And produce excellent products. With AFA, Lizzy is helping to develop the fashion platform, said Laura.
In 2019, Voeten participated in the first Alabama Tank Style Designer competition. As the youngest candidate, she was a finalist, responsible for designing, creating and presenting a three-piece ready-to-wear.
In addition, Voeten collaborates with fashion retailers, such as Kendra Scott at Bridge Street. She completes each design with Kendra Scott jewelry. Voeten uses most of JOANN Fabrics' supplies.
The Voetens are an Air Force family originally from the Netherlands. Lizzy is a bilingual, straight student, active in several school clubs and, unsurprisingly, enrolls in all art classes she can take. She also completes the modifications, designs and makes prom dresses.
With Lizzys' artistic skills, persistence, kindness and positive attitude, Lizzy will further explore the fashion world in the United States. Maybe one day New York Fashion Week? It’s his big dream! Said Laura.
